BACK 2009 Doña Eulalia Award Recipient
Lilia Hernández Ms. Hernández was born and raised in Boyle Heights. She holds a degree in political science and her arts training is in fine art photography. She has taught pre-school, first grade and college students. Before coming to Pasadena, she worked for the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department as a photography instructor and was involved with event planning at various centers. This blend of experiences helped prepare her for her current position as Director of Community Programs at the Armory Center for the Arts where she has worked in various capacities since the late 1990’s. Her personal belief that everyone has a need for creative expression and the Armory’s mission to create access to the arts for all communities has been a driving force in her work. We have benefitted from her attention to detail, her creativity and humor, her skills as a mentor, and her willingness to collaborate with others. Eulalia Pérez de Guillen de Mariné (17??-1878)
Eulalia Perez de Guillen de Mariné was gifted Rancho San Pascual when mission lands were given to secular owners. Pasadena, parts of La Caņada, San Marino, Sierra Madre, and South Pasadena now sit on that land. Latino Heritage gives the Doña Eulalia Award to those who have long dedicated themselves and their work to their community.
